Patient Service Representative

(Front Desk)

  • Responsible for providing a welcoming and friendly atmosphere to all patients and internal/external customers
  • Ensures all patients are signed in and checked into the EHR and works closely with medical staff to ensure seamless patient transition to the unit
  • Verifies insurance or sliding fee scale (SFS) eligibility prior to appointment and scans insurance renewal paperwork into the EHR prior to the patient’s appointment
  • Notifies patient prior to appointment if insurance or SFS has lapsed or terminated
  • Obtains consent forms when patient arrives for appointment if the previous forms lapsed
  • Ensures timely and accurate charge entry and payment collection and reconciliation
  • Maintains accurate patient records by obtaining, recording and updating demographic and financial information and assists patients with provider assignment
  • Refers patients to registration if SFS information has expired or is presumptive status
  • Makes thorough notes in EHR to ensure communication related to patient status
  • Maintains a positive and empathetic attitude at all times to ensure patient satisfaction
  • Provides back-up to the registration department and conducts other duties as assigned
  • Provides clients with referral information and patients, community members, and other agencies about community services or events


High School/GED Equivalent and minimum one year medical front desk experience or medical billing experience. Certified coder or biller in lieu of experience.


  • State of Arizona Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card
  • Valid Arizona Driver License and proof of insurance


  • Bilingual, English / Spanish verbal and written
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to provide excellent service and patient satisfaction under stress
  • Proven strong communication skills – oral and written correspondence are clear, concise, and in an organized fashion using appropriate style, grammar and tone


  • Previous experience at Front Desk in a healthcare organization
  • Experience with electronic health record (Centricity)
