Medical Assistant

  • Verifies patient information by interviewing patient; recording medical history; confirming   purpose of visit
  • Prepares patients for examination by taking blood pressure, weight, height, temperature and medication allergies
  • Answers unit phones and responds to patient requests as appropriate. Accurately completes documentation of phone calls in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR). Seeks further guidance from providers when necessary to meet patient concerns or medical needs
  • Assists with prescription refills coordinating with the providers, pharmacies and patients.
  • Enrolls patients in prescription assistance programs as needed
  • Provides support to patients and providers  by completing documentation such as return to work forms, FMLA forms and others
  • Prepares patients for exams and assists the physician or nurse practitioner in providing clinical care to patients
  • Completes provider treatment & immunization orders following health center protocols.  Completes accurate documentation of treatments/immunizations in EMR and state immunization registry (ASIIS)
  • Reviews the team huddle reports and obtains needed information for the following days appointments.  Communicates information from the team huddle report to the providers.
  • Completes lab tracking follow-up each week as assigned
  • Prepares necessary supplies, equipment and paperwork for patient visit. At the end of business each day, stocks exam rooms and work area
  • Responds to patient walk-in requests for in-house lab tests according to health center protocols
  • Monitors and utilizes proper disposal of sharp items and bio-hazardous wastes
  • Promotes proper procedure for chemical safety as outlined in the OSHA guidelines (i.e. SDS sheets, chemical spill kit)
  • Demonstrates competence in technical skills
  • Maintains logs regarding equipment checks (AED, oxygen, etc)
  • Reports any facility issues to Clinical Director and keeps Clinical Director up to date on resolution  


  • Certificate of completion or diploma from an accredited Medical Assistant program


  • Certification of completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program
  • Certified in Basic CPR
  • State of Arizona Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card
  • Valid Arizona Driver License, proof of insurance and Arizona Motor Vehicle Division 39 months Motor Vehicle Report


  • Bilingual in Spanish (verbal and written)


  • 1 year experience in related field
  • Additional experience in ambulatory care setting, direct support to patients and providers
  • Advanced education/certification
